“I want to build a robot” were the first words I heard from Chris. This was just a few days after my Buffalo arrival in 1978 to work in his father’s lab at UB. I found that was quite a complex toy compared to what I had in mind at his age, trying to put together an all terrain car made up with a few Erector pieces. As years went by, I could follow his growing up keeping Fred busy.
The kid on his shoulder is my first son Gabriel, during the celebration of his first birthday. Now, he is 6 feet tall, and I am sure Chris would have tried the same trick.
Even now, as far apart in distance and time, I share the void he has left behind.
